God has made us different, he made us so unique. We slither on the ground, we have no hands and feet. Though you find us scary, or maybe just plain weird, our intentions are not to hurt you or cause you such great fear. Our venom's not meant for humans but to help us when we eat. So, please stop the senseless killing before we're all extinct. We're not saying you have to love us or tell us we're the best. God's the one who created us. So, treat us with respect.

Fears are educated into us and can, if we wish, be educated out. -Karl A. Merringer
A righteous man cares for the needs of his animal... Proverbs 12:10
The snake is an animal. It has a backbone and a heart. It has red blood. It drinks water and eats food. It breathes air and feels fear just like every other animal in the world. And, it's in a body that's the hardest thing for the average person to understand. (author-unknown)

Giant Western Diamondback 1

This photo has been circulating on the internet since 2005 and every year pops up as just being killed. It was first reported as being killed at the old Turkey creek gas plant off of Hwy 136 south of Fritch Texas. Later versions of the story say it was killed at J&L Tack Supply in Poplar Bluff Missouri. More recently, folks are claiming to have killed it in Georgia. Obviously, these people do not realize that the snake in the photo is a western diamonback rattlesnake which is not found east of the Mississippi River. It is identified as such by the black and white ringed tail. Eastern diamonbacks which are found east of the Mississippi River have solid blacks tails. As with many other "Giant Rattlesnake" photos. This one appears to be photo shopped. Here's why: 1. The snake does appear to be dead which when picked up in this manner would cause its head to hang straight down and not have a curve in its neck. (The photo was taken of a dead snake lying on the ground as the photographer stood over the snake. The image is then overlayed onto the photo of a man holding a set of snake tongs.) 2. The Snake is reported to be over nine feet long and weigh ninety seven pounds. Holding a 97 pound snake with a stick out in front of you is not possible (we've tried it). Below, Jason and Mike of Southeastern Reptile Rescue are holding a twelve foot long burmese python that is under 100 pounds. It is not something that we appreciate doing by ourselves with a stick!
